The Healing Reminder of Taking Care of Yourself.
This morning, I woke up on the bright side of the bed. I had a plan of how I wanted to navigate my morning, had my tasks planned, and felt ready to take on a Monday! This weekend I was able to get a lot of things taken care of and squared away as I continue to embark on the entrepreneurial journey. Setting up systems for myself, cleaning up my email box, I am even working to find a virtual assistant to help me so I can be more present and consistent on social media.
Long story short, I woke up late this morning, had a situation with my car, and had to navigate how I would make my scheduled meetings — all while dealing with a tension headache and before having coffee, breakfast, and my vitamins!
As I’m writing this post, I am on the way back to my office (taking a Lyft lol) and something dawned on me while at a co-working brunch business meeting with a colleague. I realized that even with the craziness of the morning, my tummy was well regulated. What do I mean? Well, research shows that gut health is connected to brain health. According to Harvard Medical School, “…the brain and the gastrointestinal (GI) system are intimately connected.”
Although I felt off kilter because my morning did not go ‘as planned’, I quickly realized that I was okay. Inside. I was able to be present during the meeting, and really enjoyed my blueberry muffin. Don’t worry — I definitely was sure to add in some protein and all!
The moral of my story for today is this: be as consistent as you can in taking care of yourself. Of your health. Don’t give up on you. Especially if you’re disappointed because things done go as planned. Because there will come a day when you will see the fruits of your labor. The fruits of taking care of yourself, all the while enjoying a special treat (or two) to have some comfort in the midst of life. This is healing.
Take a listen to this song, Ameriican Requiem, that has been making my day — off of Beyonce’s new album: Cowboy Carter. Yippee Kiyay to this here Monday!
